We're Reimagining What's Possible for People with Disabilities.

The U.S. disability benefits system is broken. It's outdated, fragmented, and too often keeps people with disabilities from achieving the independence, economic mobility and full citizenship they deserve.

The Campaign to Fix the Disability System, in collaboration with Able Americans with generous support from the Taishoff Family Foundation, is a first-of-its-kind national coalition united around a bold goal: to modernize our nation's disability benefits structure so that it works for—not against—people with disabilities, families and caregivers.

Our Mission

We believe disability benefits should be a bridge—not a barrier—to employment, security, and independence. Our coalition brings together national and local advocates, policy leaders, families, and self-advocates to push for federal reforms that are inclusive, fair, and future-focused.

Our Priorities

Portability of Benefits Across State Lines

No one should lose critical supports just for moving to a new state. We're working to standardize benefits like Medicaid, home-and-community-based services waivers, and vocational rehabilitation to ensure continuity and choice—wherever you live or work.

Modernizing Income & Asset Rules

Outdated limits discourage savings and employment. We're fighting to remove these roadblocks so individuals with disabilities can work, save, and thrive—without losing the benefits they rely on.

Accountability in Workforce & Education Programs

We're pressing for real oversight and innovation in federal and state vocational rehabilitation and education programs. Our goal: ensure people with disabilities are at the center of every workforce development effort.

Disability-Inclusive Retirement Solutions

Everyone deserves a path to retirement security. We support expanding ABLE accounts and developing new tools that allow people with disabilities to plan for their future without sacrificing care or benefits.

Why Now?

The disability community deserves more than outdated policies and one-size-fits-none systems. It's time for structural change that centers lived experience, empowers independence, and unlocks opportunity for millions of Americans.

Join the Movement

Whether you're an advocate, policymaker, caregiver, or ally—we need your voice. Together, we can create a benefits system that reflects the dignity, potential, and future of the disability community.
